Chest belt
The chest belt is a belt which is attached at each end of
the shell below the patient's armpits and is closed at the
front Various variants of chest belts can be selected
The chest belt embraces the upper body (ribcage) and
prevents the user from falling off the seat
Chest belt with flap
The chest belt with flap has been mounted in the proper
position during adjustment of the seat shell It is pos-
sible to perform minor adjustments to the length using
the hook and loop fastener To open the belt, proceed
as follows:
Pull the front flap upwards
Then pull the overlapping ends of the chest belt
apart
You can then lay the two ends of the chest belt
aside and remove the patient from the seat shell,
as necessary
Repeat these steps in reverse order when applying
the belt to secure the patient in the seat shell
When applying the belt, check to ensure that it is
not constricting the patient; this is especially im-
portant to ensure that the patient's breathing is not
adversely affected
Chest belt with deflection roller
The chest belt with deflection roller has been mounted
in the proper position during adjustment of the seat
shell It is possible to perform minor adjustments to
the length using the hook and loop fastener
To open the belt, proceed as follows:
Pull the overlapping ends of the chest belt apart
Now pull the loose end of the chest belt through
the metal loop
You can then lay the two ends of the chest belt
aside and remove the patient from the seat shell,
as necessary
Repeat these steps in reverse order when applying
the belt to secure the patient in the seat shell
Chest harness
The chest harness is used to restrain the patient's
entire upper body The chest harness is tailored indi-
vidually to the needs of the patient To avoid pressure
areas, the fasteners are always sewn to the harness
ends This makes slipping of the fasteners to the side
impossible
The lower end of the harness runs across the two
spines (the two upper, anterior iliac spines) to the side
of the pelvis The middle part of the chest harness is
guided across the torso at the front and ands at the
height of the sternum The two upper harness ends
pass along the side of the neck over the shoulders
The chest harness is an optimal correction aid to
achieve symmetrical alignment of the pelvis and the
torso At the same time it continues straightening the
pectoral girdle and the neck By placing the chest
harness symmetrically on the spines (straps pull
to straighten the pelvis), the pull upwards helps to
straighten the shoulders and to symmetrically stretch
the spine, which keeps the head erect
Important!
Always adjust the chest harness, work-
ing from the hard back of the shell
outwards and using the tighteners located there
Restraining the patient in the seat shell
Precondition:
place the patient in the seat shell
and lay the chest harness over the back edge of
the shell
To restrain the patient, proceed as follows:
Position the patient correctly in the seating shell
with the pelvis on the inner back of the shell
Lay the chest harness facing forwards The head is
then positioned between the two shoulder straps
The lower end of the chest harness is equipped
with two tighteners for fastening the straps
Open the flap on one of the black strap tighteners
(if this version applies)
Now push the belt webbing through the seat cush-
ion and the back cushion into the slot on the cor-
responding side between the moving flap and the
fixed part
Pull the belt webbing as far as it will go
Hold the belt webbing in this position
Then close the flap on the tightener until it lies flat
against the fixed part
Or use the plug lock, if available, to close the strap
To open the lock, pull the flap on the tightener up-
wards and pull out the belt webbing Or open the
plug lock with two fingers
Repeat this procedure on the other side
Repeat these steps in reverse order to release
restraint by the chest harness
Some chest harnesses are fitted with tensioning
straps, proceed here as follows
Close the clip buckles or plug locks on both sides
Now pull on the tensioning straps on the right and
left to adjust the desired pressure
Always start first in the pelvic region and then in
the region of the shoulders
Through correct guidance of the slots in the seat, the
strap is pulled outwards/downwards and thus stabi-
lizes the pelvis in central position The pull direction
of the straps should be an angled extension of the har-
ness upwards/to the back (erection of shoulders)
To adjust the length of the straps of the chest harness,
proceed as follows:
