Standard equipment
Parking brakes/drum brakes
SIMPLY and SIMPLY LIGHT are equipped with two inde-
pendently operating parking drum brakes These can
be activated on both rear wheels The brake levers are
equipped with a three-level ratchet mechanism, which
provides for varying levels of braking action
Activating the parking brake
To activate the parking brakes, proceed as follows:
Pull both brake handles on the push bar Make
sure that the brake handle does not return to the
starting position (locking mechanism will click
audibly into place); otherwise the parking brake
has not been activated
Check the braking action by attempting to push the
SIMPLY or SIMPLY LIGHT
Important!
If the braking action is no longer
sufficient, then have the brakes read-
justed by your medical supplies dealer
You can also use the parking brake for better brak-
ing control on descents In such cases, engage the
parking brake, as needed, into the first or second
ratchet position only
Releasing the parking brake
To release the parking brake, proceed as follows: deac-
tivate the locking mechanism by activating the ratchet
lever and allowing the brake lever to glide back into the
starting position You may need to discharge the ratchet
lever by pulling slightly on the brake lever before the
brake can be released
Height- and angle-adjustable push bar
Settings and adjustment options for the push bar
The push bar has various adjustment options This
makes it possible to achieve optimal customization to
the person being pushed
The following adjustment options are possible:
Adjusting the angle of the top piece of the push bar
Adjusting the height of the push bar unit
Adjusting the inclination angle of the push bar unit
relative to the vertical
Adjusting the angle of the top piece of the push bar
To adjust the angle of the push bar, proceed as follows:
Activate the parking brakes
Loosen the screw connections on the right and left
ratchet joints on the push bar by turning the clamp
levers counterclockwise until the top piece of the
push bar can be moved
Move the push bar into the desired position
Hold the push bar in the desired position with one
hand and secure it in place by tightening the corre-
sponding clamp lever with the other hand
Secure the screw connection on the other side as
well by tightening the clamp lever
When tightening the ratchet joints make sure that
the teeth engage properly
If necessary, release the parking brakes
Adjusting the height of the push bar unit
Adjustment of the height of the push bar is always nec-
essary when adapting the undercarriage to suit the
person pushing the chair or if the inclination angle of
the seat shell has been changed
To adjust the height of the push bar, proceed as follows:
First, loosen the quick-release fasteners on the
fork tubes by opening the two quick-release levers
outwards
Then adjust the push bar to the desired height To
do this, pull or press the push bar to the desired
height
Secure the push bar in position by tightening the
quick-release connectors To do so, tilt the lever on
the quick-release fasteners back in
If the clamping pressure is not sufficient (push bar
not secured in place), then turn the screw across
from the quick-release fastener clamp lever (with
lever in open position) counter-clockwise, until
sufficient clamping pressure is achieved by closing
the clamp lever Repeat this process, as necessary
Adjusting the inclination angle of the back unit
(including the push bar) relative to the vertical
In addition to the adjustment options already described
above, it is also possible to swivel the entire push bar
back by up to
30
° This can become necessary, for ex-
ample, if a seat shell is being used with a seat angle of
more than
90
° This enables the gap between the back of
the seat shell and the push bar to be as uniformly small
as possible This adjustment option is not intended for
individual adjustment to the person pushing the chair
