Good maintenance will increase the life of your bike and its components. Clean and maintain your bike
regularly.
For wet cleaning use a gentle water jet to remove large items of debris. Let the bike dry off somewhat
and then apply suitable detergent (only use products expressly suitable for bikes; ensure that these
products do not attack either paint, rubber, plastic or metal parts etc.). Rinse the entire bike with a
gentle water jet and allow it to dry.
Clean the chain using a suitable chain cleaner - consult your dealer - with or without special cleaning
devices. If you don
’
t have a chain cleaning device you can drip a suitable chain cleaner into a clean,
spirit-free cotton cloth and wipe the chain down. When doing so slowly operate the crank against the
direction of drive. After the chain dried sparingly apply a lubricant suitable for bicycle chains to the
chain links. Using to much lubricant can cause it to reach other bike components such as the rims.
This may reduce brake efficiency in case of rim brakes and can cause serious falls or material
damage.
Clean and lubricate your chain as described after every ride in the wet and every
prolonged ride on a sandy subsurface and at the latest every 200 km.
The chain may wear down under various circumstances. Periodically check the chain
’s elongation and
replace when necessary. Replacing the chain on time ensures the durability of transmision
’s
components.
