Table 5-6 Hardware Management Console usage

The Hardware Management Console provides a set of functions that are
necessary to manage the POWER5 systems when LPAR, Capacity on Demand
(CoD) without reboot, inventory and firmware management, and remote power
control functions are needed. These functions include the handling of the
partition profiles that define the processor, memory, and I/O resources that are
allocated to an individual partition.

POWER5 processor-based system HMCs require Ethernet connectivity to the
CEC. Sufficient Ethernet adapters must be available to enable public and private
networks if you need both.

The 7310 Model C04 is a desktop model with one native 10/100/1000 Ethernet
port, two additional PCI-X slots for additional Ethernet adapters, two
PCI-Express slots, and six USB ports.

The 7310 Model CR3 is a 1U, 19-inch rack-mountable drawer that has two native
Ethernet ports, two additional PCI-X slots for additional Ethernet adapters, and
three USB ports.

No charge conversions feature are available for existing IBM
7315-C01/C02/C03/CR2 HMCs from the HMC for POWER4 Licensed Machine
Code (FC 0960) to HMC for POWER5 Licensed Machine Code (FC 0961).
