Reinstalling the motherboard tray and entering Maintenance
mode
After you replace a component within the motherboard tray, you must reinstall the
motherboard tray in the system chassis and boot it to a state where you can run
diagnostic tests on the replaced component.
Procedure
1.
Align the end of the motherboard tray with the opening in the chassis, if
necessary, and then gently push the motherboard tray into the system. The cam
handle begins to engage when the motherboard tray is properly seated all the
way inside the system.
2.
Firmly push the cam handle to finish seating the motherboard tray in the
system.
3.
Tighten the thumbscrews on the cam handle and chassis frame.
4.
Reinstall the cable management tray and recable the system, as needed.
When recabling, remember to reinstall the media converters (SFPs) if you are
using fiber optic cables.
5.
Reconnect the power cables to the power supplies and to the power sources,
and then turn on the power.
6.
Reboot the node and press Ctrl-C to enter the boot menu when prompted. If
you did not press Ctrl-C in time, you can reboot the node again and press
Ctrl-C when prompted.
7.
Enter

when prompted to acknowledge the system ID mismatch due to the
new NVRAM adapter:

8.
Select the option to boot to Maintenance mode from the displayed menu.
Reassigning disks on a system operating in 7-Mode
You must reassign disks before you boot the software. Some of the steps are
different depending on whether the system is stand-alone or in an HA pair .
About this task
v
You must apply the commands in these steps on the correct systems:
– The
impaired node
is the node on which you are performing maintenance.
– The
healthy node
is the HA partner of the impaired node.
v
Do not issue any commands relating to aggregates until the entire procedure is
completed.
v
If your system has 500 or more disk drives, the version of Data ONTAP you are
running determines whether you can reassign the disks:
If you are running this version of Data
ONTAP...
Then...
v
8.0.3 or later in the 8.0 release family
v
8.1.1 or later in the 8.1 release family
The operation is supported but you must
contact technical support for assistance.
