Ensure that you have the wanted number of PCIe3 6-slot fanout modules installed in the EMX0 PCIe3
expansion drawer. To install another PCIe3 6-slot fanout module, choose from the following topics:

If your system is not managed by an HMC, you must power off the system to install a PCIe3 6-slot
fanout module, see Installing the PCIe3 6-slot fanout module in the EMX0 PCIe Gen3 I/O
expansion drawer with the system power turned off (http://www.ibm.com/support/
knowledgecenter/POWER8/p8egv/p8egv_emx0_kickoff.htm).
Note:
You must power off the server and the EMX0 PCIe3 expansion drawer to install an
additional PCIe3 6-slot fanout module.

If your system is managed by an HMC, you can install a PCIe3 6-slot fanout module when the
system power is turned on. For details, see Installing a part by using the HMC (http://
www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/POWER8/p8haj/hmcinstall.htm).

Determine the level of software that you need to support the drawer. For instructions, see the IBM
Prerequisite website (http://www-912.ibm.com/e_dir/eServerPrereq.nsf).

Choose from the following options:

If your EMX0 PCIe3 expansion drawer arrived to your site preinstalled in a rack, continue with the
step 5.
v
If your EMX0 PCIe3 expansion drawer needs to be installed into a rack, continue with step 6 on
page 3.

If your EMX0 PCIe3 expansion drawer arrived to your site preinstalled in a rack, complete the
following steps:
a.
Ensure that you have the following items before you start your installation:
v
#1 and #2 Phillips screwdriver
v
Flat-head screwdriver
b.
Remove the shipping bracket by completing the following steps:
1)
Ensure that you have the electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist strap attached. If not, attach it
now.
2)
Using a #1 Phillips screwdriver or 7/32 socket, remove the two M4 screws (B) that secure the
shipping bracket (A) to the EMX0 PCIe3 expansion drawer.
