T o Use the Flatness Correction Routine
When the FLA TNESS CORRECTION routine is on, the signal generator p erforms a
calibration pro cess that corrects for external losses or p o w er v ariations in an external signal
path. In order to use FLA TNESS CORRECTION, the signal generator m ust rst run the
CALIBRA TE FLA TNESS CORRECTION routine. During the CALIBRA TE FLA TNESS
CORRECTION routine, an HP 437B, HP 438A, HP 70100A, or a SCPI compatible p o w er
meter, that is under con trol of the signal generator, measures p o w er v ariations at the output
of the external signal path o v er a user-dened frequency range. The signal generator then
reads bac k the p o w er lev el data from the p o w er meter and creates a table of correction
v alues for eac h frequency p oint (the atness correction table). The atness correction table
is automatically stored in one of four non-v olatile memory registers. Up to four atness
correction tables can b e stored for later use.
When FLA TNESS CORRECTION is on, the atness correction table adjusts the signal
generator output p o w er (to comp ensate for losses or gains) to pro vide constan t lev eled p o w er
at the external p ort.
Note
If y ou use the FLA TNESS CORRECTION routine when the RF output is
lev eled in ternally , devices external to the signal generator m ust b e linear (must
ha v e a 1 dB to 1 dB transfer function).
Using the CALIBRA TE FLA TNESS CORRECTION routine requires the follo wing external
equipmen t:
