3.5 Grounding and power considerations - IOTA boards
Attaching the IOTA board
The Series 8 installation allows IOTA boards to attach to it with screws. By ensuring
power connection, some methods can be used to test for power as follows.
Testing for power
CAUTION
The following locations are recommended for testing power:
Preferred location if IOTAs are attached
5 pin (24V) and 6 pin (GND) of the cable cap which connect to the
IOLINKA
’s or IOLINKB’s terminal on the header board with a
cable.
Preferred location if IOTAs are NOT attached
5 pin (24V) and 6 pin (GND) of the IOLINKA
’s and IOLINKB’s
terminal on the header board.
Testing for power at cable cap
Refer to
Caution
in the Testing for power section.
Step
Action
1
Insert the test probes at 5 pin (24V) and 6 pin (GND) of the cable cap which
connect to the IOLINKA
’s or IOLINKB’s terminal on the header board with a
cable.
2
Then insert the cable cap into the terminal on IOTA boards.
Testing for power at IOLINKA
’s and IOLINKB’s terminal on the header board
Refer to
Caution
in the Testing for power section.
Step
Action
1
Insert the probes at 5 pin (24V) and 6 pin (GND) of the IOLINKA
’s and
IOLINKB
’s terminal on the header board.
2
Be careful not to connect 24V to GND directly, otherwise it can result in an
electrical short, which impacts all modules attached to the cabinet.
