ABOVE 60 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT BEFORE OPERATING
THE HYDRAULIC PUMPS UNDER LOAD. IF THE FLUID
TEMPERATURE IS BELOW 60 DEGREES F (16 C) YOU
SHOULD RUN THE MACHINE IN WORK MODE AT IDLE TO
CIRCULATE HYDRAULIC FLUID AT LOW PRESSURE UNTIL
IT IS WARMED TO OPERATING TEMPERATURE. FAILURE
TO DO SO COULD RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE INTERNAL
SEALS IN THE PUMP.
Hydraulic System Filters
Clean hydraulic fluid that has not been exposed to
excessive temperature or become contaminated
is essential to the performance of the system.
As pumps, cylinders and components wear, they
release tiny metal and rubber particles into the
hydraulic fluid. These particles act as a grinding
compound as they flow through the system. Or
-
dinary dirt and water are common hydraulic fluid
contaminants. Any one of these will contribute to
premature failure of hydraulic components. Filters
on the low pressure hydraulic circuits and on the
high pressure circuit for the hydrostatic drive re-
move these contaminates and increase the life of
the fluid and hydraulic components.
Low Pressure filters
There is a low pressure “Spin On” filter in the re
-
turn line. Another low pressure cartridge filter in
the top of the reservoir cleans the fluid as it flows
back into the reservoir.
All return fluid passes through the low pressure
filters as it flows back into the tank. The filters
should be changed at the same time the hydrau-
lic fluid is changed or if restricted return flow is
indicated by the gauges.
High Pressure Filter
A special fine micron “Spin On” filter is located
on
the side of the auxiliary engine in the high pres-
sure circuit between the hydrostatic pump and
drive motor. The filter removes tiny particles that
could be released by the hydraulic pump. The filter
element is inside a special “Spin On” canister that
can withstand the operating pressure on the high
pressure side of the pump.
A status indicator on the filter housing monitors
hydraulic pressure and provides an indication of
when the filter element is becoming clogged and
must be changed. The element should also be
changed when the hydraulic oil is changed.
