4.2  FILLING THE FUEL TANK

Add fuel to the fuel tank as needed. See you engine
manual for the correct type and grade of fuel. To add
fuel to the fuel tank:

1. Put the unit in an open area.

2. Stop the engine.

3. Clean the fuel cap and the area around the fuel

cap to prevent dirt from entering the fuel tank.
Remove the cap from the fuel tank.

4. Fill the fuel tank. Be careful not to spill the fuel.

5. Install the cap on the fuel tank and tighten.

6. Clean up any spilled fuel before starting the

engine.

4.3  CHECKING THE HYDRAULIC FLUID

The hydraulic fluid should be visible through the 1/2"
hole in the hydraulic tank bracket when the unit is level.
For oil specifications see Specifications. The hydraulic
filter should be replaced after the first 50 hours of
operation and every 500 hours thereafter.

NOTE: Use only a replacement filter purchased from
Gravely. Do not use an engine oil filter for the specified
transmission filter.

The fluid and filter should be changed after any
hydraulic maintenance is performed or if the system
has become contaminated with foreign matter (water,
dirt, grease, etc.). Fluid contaminated with water will
have a cloudy appearance.

4.4  CHECKING FASTENERS

Each day before operating, check all nuts, bolts and
other fasteners. Replace fasteners that are missing or
damaged. Tighten all nuts and bolts.

4.5  LUBRICATION

1. Apply Stens Hi-Temp Grease or equivalent to the

lube fittings on idler pivots.

2. Grease the pillow block, idler pivot arm, parking

brake arm, directional control pedal, spindle caster
steer, and handlebar every 25 hours.

3. Oil all pivot points and pin connections daily.

4.6  ADJUSTMENT OF TRANSMISSION
NEUTRAL

The tractor should return to neutral after foot pressure
is removed from the direction control pedal. If the
tractor creeps, the neutral stop mechanism, located on
the top front of the transmission, needs adjusting
(Figure 9)

1. Place unit toward a wall.

2. Remove the belt guard from the mower frame.

3. Jack or hoist one of the drive wheels off the

ground.

4. Loosen the two 5/16-18 bolts on the neutral stop

weldment (Figure 9).

5. Start the engine. Do not lock the parking brake.

WARNING: Use caution with fuel. Fuel is very
flammable. Keep fuel in a clean and tight
container. Keep fuel away from fire or heat.
Never put fuel in the fuel tank while engine is
running or hot. Clean up any spilled fuel
before starting the engine.

CAUTION: Read this manual and the Owner/
Operator manual carefully before operation
the equipment.

WARNING: The following adjustment requires
engine running and guards removed. Use
extreme caution when performing these
adjustments.
