9.1 TRANSMISSION REMOVAL
This transaxle has a one-piece axle housing and a wet
disc brake system at each axle housing (internal)
actuated by a brake lever at the rear and center of the
transaxle. It has a tapered axle.
NOTE: For safety and easier access to the transmis-
sion we recommend removing the mower deck.
1. Remove fan guard.
2. Remove the main drive belt.
3. Remove the fan, pulley and woodruff key from the
transmission input shaft.
4. Raise and block the drive wheels off the floor.
5. Remove the drive wheels.
6. Disconnect the wiring harness from the neutral
start interlock switch(s).
7. Place an open-top container under the
transmission and remove the two lower hydraulic
hoses and the upper return hose. Cap fittings and
hoses to prevent contamination of hydraulic
system.
8. Disconnect the brake linkage at transmission.
9. Remove the spring from the transmission bypass
lever.
10.Disconnect the forward/reverse cable at the
transmission control arm.
11.Remove the two bolts securing the pillow block
bearing to the axle support weldment.
12.Remove the two transaxle support brackets.
NOTE: To prevent damage to the transaxle, support
transaxle with a floor jack.
13.Remove the four bolts securing the transmission to
the unit.
14.Lower the transmission from the unit.
15.Remove the transmission control arm and woodruff
key. Remove the neutral switch(s) and brackets.
NOTE: Clean the outside surfaces of the transaxle and
place on a clean working surface before disassem-
bling.
SECTION 9 - DRIVE TRAIN
WARNING: Accidental startup can cause
serious injury. Stop engine, remove key and
disconnect the battery, negative terminal first.
CAUTION: When raising tractor, block
securely with jack stands.
