11.1 REPLACING THE PTO CLUTCH BELT
ON MODELS WITH IDLER SPRINGS
1. Stop the engine and remove the ignition key. Put
the PTO switch in the "Off" position.
2. Remove the mower belt from the electric clutch.
3. Remove the idler spring, PTO belt, and the electric
clutch (Figure 44).
4. Install the electric clutch and torque the bolt to
50 ft-lbs (67.8 Nm).
5. Put the new PTO clutch belt on the sheave, idler
pulley and double groove engine sheave. Replace
with PTO idler spring.
6. Put the mower belt back on the electric clutch and
tension the mower belt.
11.2 CLUTCH REMOVAL
1. Loosen and remove mower drive belt.
2. Loosen and remove PTO clutch belt.
3. Clip the tie wrap(s) holding the wiring harness out
of the way and unplug from the main harness.
NOTE: When clutch retaining bolt is removed the
clutch may have a tendency to slide off the pump shaft
and could cause damage to the clutch or mower drive
pulley.
4. Remove the clutch retaining bolt and slide the
clutch off the pump shaft.
5. Inspect and repair as needed.
11.3 CLUTCH INSTALLATION
1. Reverse the disassembly procedure to reinstall the
clutch.
NOTE: To prevent damage to the clutch, insure that the
clutch stop weldment is protruding through the clutch
stop hole and that the wiring harness comes out from
the left side of the clutch.
2. Tie wrap the wiring harness out of the way of
moving parts.

SECTION 11 - POWER TAKE-OFF (PTO)
CAUTION: Before performing any service or
adjustments:
1. Turn PTO switch "OFF".
2. Park mower on a hard, flat, level surface.
3. Set parking brake.
4. Turn ignition switch "OFF" and remove
key.
5. Wait for all moving parts to stop.
6. Disconnect spark plug wire(s) from spark
plug(s) and place wire(s) away from plug.
