Cleaning the purge vessel after use will help to prevent clogging of the frits or 

contamination of the glassware. Periodically, it is a good idea to clean the 

glassware thoroughly in a laboratory detergent to remove any material that cannot 
be rinsed from the purge vessel. Turn off the inert gas supply and remove the 1/4" 
to 1/8" reducing unions on the gas inlet and the outlet of the purge vessel. Remove 

the needle valve from the purge vessel and the three stopcocks. Soak the purge 

vessel, needle valves and stopcocks in warm detergent for several hours. Use an 
ultrasonic cleaner to assist in cleaning. Rinse the purge vessel thoroughly in 

deionized water and allow to air dry before re-assembling the purge vessel.
