must be identical for proper operation. Examples are the SCB ADDRESS and REMOTE settings, which
are independent for each module, and the TERM setting, which depends on the network layout.
Check that the starting time slot settings are appropriate for the transmission system in use.
Problems may occur at the common equipment or facility level which affect this card’s operation. The
troubleshooting section in your multiplexer operation manual gives system analysis procedures. Table
5-1 lists some common problem areas and solutions.

SRVC indicator light
flashes, and the
channel module does
not go into service.
Configuration error:
The starting time slot is set
too high.
1. Check the settings for sampling bandwidth and one or
two-channel operation.
2. Go to Section 3.3.3.2 to determine the number of time
slots required (N).
3. Count down N slots from the highest time slot number
available to the multiplexer (24 if it is T1 or variable
rate, 31 if it is E1) to determine the highest legal (L)
starting time slot.
4. Reset the starting time slot to L or below (for T1
multiplexers, the time slot is the 5-bit switch code +1.
SRVC indicator light
does not come on.
Service (OFF) switch is turned
off.
The module is not seated
properly.
Common module not installed
and running in TERM mode.
1. Turn on the service switch (PT-353, SW3 and PR-353,
SW4 position 4 to UP).
2. Press the module firmly into the slot until it is snugly
seated.
FAIL indicator light is
on.
Hardware (DSP or logic
circuitry) malfunction
Replace the module with a spare and call GatesAir
Intraplex Customer Service for a repair return
authorization.
PR-353 output does
not correspond to
the PT-353
transmission signal.
PT- and PR-353 not set to use

indicates receive bit

2. Check that the settings on both modules are identical.
