Time Slot Selection Switches
3.3.3.1 SPARE (Positions 1-3 – PT-353 SW2 and PR-353 SW3)
These switches are spare at this time and must be UP. Verify that the spare switches on the receiver
are UP: SP3, SP2, and SP1 (Positions 1-3 – PT-353 SW2 and PR-353 SW3).
3.3.3.2 Starting Time Slot (Positions 4-8 – PT-353 SW2 and PR-353 SW3)
The time slot selection switches, PT-353 SW2 and PR-353 SW3, use Positions 4 through 8. For both
SW2 and SW3
●
Position 4 = DS4.
●
Position 5 = DS3.
●
Position 6 = DS2.
●
Position 7 = DS1.
●
Position 8 = DS0.
Table 3-4 gives starting time slot settings. Select a starting time slot using the five TIME SLOT
switches.
●
A time slot assignment does not wrap around. If the selected starting time slot is too high to allow
the entire output signal to fit into the aggregate circuit, it is considered a configuration error; the
module does not operate and the SRVC indicator light blinks.
●
The network setup determines the number of time slots that are available. T1 networks have 24
time slots, and E1 networks have 31 time slots.
Warning!
For T1 networks, the DIP switch setting of the time slot is the starting time slot minus 1.
For example, if the desired starting time slot is 1, the DIP switch code is 0.
For E1 networks, the DIP switch setting of the time slot is the starting time slot.
●
These factors determine the number of time slots required:
•
Sampling rate (32, 44.1 or 48 ksps)
•
One or two-channel operation
•
CAS is engaged (E1 networks only — reserves time slot 16)
●
The starting time slot must allow for the signal bandwidth. For example, if the cards are set for a
32 ksps sampling rate using 2 channels, Figure 3-5 indicates that 17 time slots are required.
Therefore, the starting time slot on a T1 network can be set on any time slot from 1 to 7 (24-
17=7). On an E1 network, the starting time slot can be set on any time slot from 1 to 14 (1 to 13
if the CAS is engaged). Table 3-4 gives starting time slot selections.
