3.3.4 Service/Control Switch Banks
The PT-353 service/control switch bank is labeled SW3. The PR-353 service/control switch bank is
labeled SW4. Both switches are four-position banks that include control of multiplexer direction
(TERM), REMOTE/local control, and Enable Module (Service ON/OFF).
3.3.4.1 TERM (Position 1 – PT-353 SW3 and PR-353 SW4)
Position 1 of the TERM switch PT-353 SW3 and PR-353 SW4 selects the multiplexer direction. UP sets
the module to operate via the DI/B port in a drop/insert multiplexer. Do not use this setting in a
terminal multiplexer. DOWN sets the module to operate via the DI/A port in a drop/insert multiplexer.
This setting is required in a terminal multiplexer. Section 3.4 – Drop and Insert Operation gives more
detail. Table 3-5 gives switch label descriptions for the service/control switch banks on both modules.

DOWN Remote operation (the local switches are ignored)

DOWN Turn service off (disable module)
3.3.4.2 AUX (Position 2 – PT-353 SW3 and PR-353 SW4)
Not used at this time.
3.3.4.3 REMOTE (Position 6 – PT-353 SW3 and PR-353 SW4)
You can control the PT/PR-353 modules remotely on a NetXpress multiplexer by using the NetXpress
Web browser interface or SNMP. On other Intraplex multiplexers, you can control the modules
remotely by using IntraGuide Configuration and Management remote software or a terminal emulator
using ISiCL commands. To remotely control each module, you must activate the Remote mode on the
module. When in Remote mode, the module ignores the settings of the on-card DIP switches.

To activate remote mode, set PR-353 Switch 4 Position 3 DOWN and PT-353 Switch 3 Position 3
DOWN.
● To deactivate remote mode (enable local operation) set PR-353 Switch 4 Position 3 UP and PT-353
Switch 3 Position 3 UP.
Section 4 gives more information on remote control.
3.3.4.4 OFF (Position 4 – PT-353 SW3 and PR-353 SW4)
The Service On/OFF switch is selected to place the card in service. The card remains offline if the
switch is left blank. Set Position 4 UP on the PT-353 SW3 or on the PR-353 SW4 to place the module
in service.
