2 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The Visual-ICE™ MRI Cryoablation System allows clinician users to control the freezing and
thawing operations of multiple MRI cryoablation needles. The Visual-ICE MRI System consists of a
Console and Mobile Connection Panel. Figure 2-1 shows the placement of the Console and Mobile
Connection Panel in an MRI suite.
The Console is located in the control room where either the treating clinician or an assistant operates
the system using the touch screen monitor. The front of the Console provides fiber optic, electrical,
and gas connection sockets for connection to a Junction Box Harness. The opposite end of the
Junction Box Harness connects to the junction box in the control room. Electrical power and fiber
optic signal lines as well as gas lines run from the Console to the junction box in the control room.
The Mobile Connection Panel is located in the magnet room close to the MRI magnet. The Mobile
Connection Panel contains a Needle Interface with eight independent needle connection channels
(each supporting two needle ports). The platform of the Mobile Connection Panel provides fiber
optic, electrical, and gas sockets for connection to a Junction Box Harness. The opposite end of the
Junction Box Harness connects to the junction box in the magnet room. Electrical power and fiber
optic signal lines as well as gas lines run from the Mobile Connection Panel to the junction box in the
magnet room.
A custom-designed penetration panel serves as a feedthrough between the junction boxes in the
magnet room and control room. Electronic control signals between the Mobile Connection Panel and
Console are transmitted over fiber optic lines to reduce interference from the RF field and gradient
magnetic fields of the MR scanner.
