D.3. Fault and Troubleshooting Table
Problem/Fault
Potential Cause
Solution
The grain drill does
not spread any
seed/fertilizer
although it moves.
The seed/fertilizer
inside the box is
finished
Check the seed and fertilizer inside the box.
The wheel drive lock is disabled
Enable the wheel drive lock.
Rupture in transmission chains
Check the 3 transmission chains during
moving.
The clutch does not transfer the
motion
Check the clutch gears and clutch pressure spring.
Check whether the clutch actuator complies with the
seeding depth and coulters. The clutch must be
activated once the coulters are lowered on the
ground. If this does not happen, ensure that the clutch
is driven by changing the bottom and top clutch
actuators’ connection point.
Slide covers are closed
Switch the slide covers to appropriate working position.
Seed shaft
– transmission
junction problem
Check the connecting bushing and connecting bolts.
The coulters do not
submerge/I cannot
achieve the desired
seeding depth.
The depth adjustment rings are
closed
The seeding depth is provided over the depth
adjustment rings. Since the closed rings will
obstruct the submergence of the coulters, the
rings must be extended until the desired depth
by starting from the top.
The pressure wheels are too
low/the coulters are too
reclined.
The pressure wheels directly affect the seeding
depth. If the pressure wheels are too low, the coulters
will move on the pressure wheels and the discs will
not submerge. Therefore, lift the pressure wheels by
using the slope adjustment jacks.
Seed bed is prepared too hard
Condition the soil for seeding by using a harrow,
cultivator or similar light type tillage equipment.
The tow bar is not adjusted/bent
down
Bring the tow bar parallel to the ground.
The coulters submerge so
deep.
The depth adjustment is incorrect
The submergence of the coulters must be prevented
by increasing the number of rings on the depth
adjustment mechanism.
The pressure wheels are too high
Since the pressure wheels will prevent the discs to
submerge under a certain depth, it is essential that
it is well-adjusted in shallow seeding.
The seed bed is left too rough.
Settle the soil by rolling or harrowing before
seeding.
The tow bar is not adjusted/bent
backward
Bring the tow bar parallel to the ground.
The coulters cause
aggregation.
Seeding depth is too high
Reduce the seeding depth.
The soil is prepared too rough
Settle the soil by rolling or harrowing before seeding.
The prepared soil contains high
amount of clod
Use harrow, toothed roll or light type roll cultivator
to make the colds thinner.
The soil humidity is too high
Humid soil adheres to discs and clogs the coulters.
Delay the operation to a later date to wait the soil
mellowness to decrease to appropriate level or flatten
the soil by rolling.
Jamming or damage in the discs
Ensure that all the discs rotate properly during
operation.
