ELECTRO-METRICS EM-2115 2.0 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
(EM2115S2-20)
i.
The above amplitude indication is in terms of dB(µV). To determine the broad-
band amplitude measurement (in dB(µV/ MHz)), add the broadband correction
factor to the indicated meter reading. In addition to broadband correction factors,
correction factors for any pickup devices being used (antennas, probes, etc) must
added to the indicated amplitude levels.
2.4.7 Broadband/Narrowband Determination
This procedure is used for determining whether a signal is broadband or narrowband in
nature and conforms to MIL-STD-462.
a.
Set the front panel controls as follows:
BANDWIDTH ...............................................Bandwidth being used for measure-
ments.
DETECTOR ...................................................PEAK
SCAN MODE ................................................MANUAL
LOCAL ..........................................................LOCAL Mode
SAMPLE TIME CONTROL .........................Mid-range
b.
Tune the receiver to obtain the maximum amplitude of the signal in question and
note the amplitude on the front panel digital meter, this will be the reference point.
c.
Tune the receiver lower in frequency from the reference point until the digital me-
ter is 3 dB down from the reference point. Note the frequency at this point.
d.
Tune the receiver higher in frequency until the digital meter again is 3 dB down
from the reference point. Note the frequency at this point.
e.
Subtract the frequency in Step c (lower reading) from the frequency in Step d (up-
per reading). The signal is classified broadband if this frequency difference is
equal to or greater than the frequency difference shown in Table 2.4.
f.
If the frequency difference in Step e is less than that shown in Table 2.4, the signal
response is classified as narrowband in character.
