E-6.2 EM-4320 Description
The Electro-Metrics Model EM-4320 Calibrated Impulse Generator provides a reliable
source of calibrated impulses at variable repetition rates.
The EM-4320 provides a repetition rate variable between 1 Hz and 100 Hz (1 Hz steps
between 1 and 10 Hz, 10 Hz steps between 10 and 100 Hz) from 10 kHz to 1000 MHz. The unit
can be synchronized with and operated at the AC line frequency, with a front panel push-button
switch for single pulse operation. Either a positive or negative impulse polarity can be selected
that facilitates checks for a possible overload of a device or unit under test.
The impulse level is variable in 1 dB steps from 0 to 90 dB(µV/MHz); accuracy is ±1.0
dB of the level selected, with a flatness of ±0.5 dB over the calibrated frequency range. The pulse
width is approximately 0.2 ns (0.2 x 10

sec.), while a fixed internal attenuator ensures a VSWR
not exceeding 1.7:1.

The EM-4320 Calibrated Impulse Generator is used as a calibration standard that pro-
vides a reliable source of calibrated impulses at variable repetition rates. It can be used for re-
ceiver alignment, bandwidth measurements, and for checking transient response.
