NOTE:
The actual factor will usually be within ±3.0 dB of the typi-
cal factor given, but will not be worse than ±5.0 dB. Refer
to Appendix D (Broadband Correction Chart) for the actu-
al corrections factors.
In addition, if an antenna or probe is being employed, its correction factor must also be
added. In the case of a radiated field, this results in a measurement in terms of dB(µV/m/MHz)
(dB relative to one microvolt per meter per MHz). Some examples of broadband sources are au-
tomobile ignition, powerline interference, and some radar and multiplex transmissions.
When the modulation spectrum of a signal is narrower than the bandwidth of the receiver
it is classified as being narrowband and the broadband correction factor is not required. The
measurement is in terms of dB(µV) or dB(µV/m) (dB relative to one microvolt per meter) with
the applicable antenna or probe factor added. Either the Peak, Quasi-Peak, RMS, or Average de-
tector function can be used.
The Average detector function provides the best cw sensitivity and responds to the aver-
age of the modulation envelope. The Peak detector function has poorer small signal sensitivity
and measures the peak of the modulation envelope.
Refer to 2.4.6 for information on the use and function of each detector mode.
2.4.6 Detector Mode Selection
The five detector functions for the EM-2115 (Peak, Quasi-Peak, RMS, Average,
Slideback) are used to determine, in conjunction with the IF bandwidths, the character and ampli-
tude of the received signal.
