function must be ensured.
The product must be discarded immediately if even the
slightest doubt concerning its safety in use has come up.
Attention
! The products must not be subjected to damaging
infl uences. These include contact with aggressive or corrosive
substances (e. g.: acid, lye, soldering water, oils, cleaning
agents) as well as extreme temperatures or sparks.
Sharp edges, moisture and icing especially may substantially
impair the strength of textile products!
Climate during use
The temperature range for continuous use of the product (in dry
conditions) is approx. -30 °C to +40 °C.
Servicelife and replacement
The servicelife of the product mainly depends on the type and
frequency of use as well as on external infl uences.
Products made of artifi cial fi bres (polyamide or polyester,
Dyneema
®
, Aramid) are subject to some aging even if not used;
aging mainly depends on ultraviolet radiation as well as on
climatic conditions.
Maximum servicelife
at optimum storage conditions (see
Storage) if unused: Plastic parts 12 years; Metal parts: unlimited
Infrequent use
Servicelife for infrequent proper use, without detectable wear
and at optimum storage conditions: 10 years
Frequent or extreme use
Upon damage, the PPE product must immediately be removed
from service and must be presented to a skilled person or the
manufacturer for scrutiny or repair. Upon completion, the
scrutiny or repair must be confi rmed by the skilled person in
writing.
Generally, PPE products must be replaced if belt edges are
damaged or yarn has been pulled from belts and straps, or if
signs of damage/abrasion are visible on the seams, or if the
product has come in contact with chemicals.
If the tips are worn to less than 4/5 (80 %) of the original tip
length, the crampons must be replaced.
Storage, transport and maintenance
Storage:
Continuous storage temperature approx. -10 °C to +30 °C, dry
and protected from daylight
No contact with chemicals (Caution: battery acid!). Store without
mechanical squeezing, pressure or tension.
Transport:
The product must be protected from direct sunlight, chemicals,
contamination and mechanical damage. A protective bag or
special transport and storage container should be used; these
should also be suitable to prevent damage and injury from the
crampon tips.
Cleaning, maintenance:
Wet crampons should be taken from the transport container after
the tour.
Clean contaminated products in hand-warm water (if required
add neutral soap). Rinse generously. Dry at room temperature,
but never near radiators!
Repairs may only be performed as outlined in the instructions of
the manufacturer.
Flash rust showing on crampons is normal and can be removed
by polishing with acid-free oil, silicone spray or similar.
Common, non-halogen containing disinfectants may be used if
needed.
Only manually sharpen crampon tips using a fi le. Grinding with a
machine may overheat and soften the steel. Regrind as shown in
Fig. 17 and 18.
