The Eaton xStorage 400 comes with the capability to accept an external emergency power off (EPO) if desired
by the customer; although its standard configuration does not have an external EPO included. During the
commissioning process, an external EPO can be wired into the xStorage 400 by authorized personnel.
If an EPO is triggered, the xStorage 400 will go into shutdown mode, shunt trip internal battery breakers, and
shunt trip the upstream breaker feeding the xStorage 400, separating it from the load bus. This will cut all
power to and from the xStorage 400, meaning all auxiliary loads such as remote connectivity, heating, and
cooling will be shut down.
To restart the xStorage 400 after an EPO scenario, it is necessary for an authorized Eaton service personnel to
inspect the unit, close the appropriate breakers, and undergo the startup procedure again.
If an EPO is triggered, it is suggested to contact Eaton service quickly to limit downtime and restore operation
of the environmental control system.

If the utility suffers a loss of power, the Eaton xStorage 400 automatically disconnects from the grid per
UL1741SA anti-islanding and ride-through requirements. The xStorage 400 is designed to avoid unintentionally
creating an island during a utility outage. The xStorage 400 will keep its internal logic online via its internal
battery capacity until the battery energy is depleted or a pre-configured keep alive timer expires. At this point,
the unit will gracefully shut down and await utility return.
Upon the utility return, if the xStorage 400 is still online, it automatically resynchronizes with the grid and
resumes energy service participation. If the xStorage 400 is offline due to the lack of battery energy or
expiration of the keep alive timer, but the auto-restart functionality is enabled, the unit begins its power-up and
startup process and then connects to the utility and resume energy service participation. If auto-restart
functionality is not enabled, the unit will require an Eaton service personnel to bring the unit back online.

An Eaton service representative is required to shut down the xStorage 400 for an extended period. The Eaton
service representative will ensure the equipment is placed in a safe and protected state for the extended
shutdown. During a system shutdown, there will be no environmental regulation of temperatures within the
xStorage 400. An Eaton service representative will also be necessary to inspect and start up the unit after an
extended shutdown.

The xStorage 400 will shut down during an extended blackout when its battery energy is depleted or its internal
keep alive timer expires. During this shutdown, there will be no environmental regulation of temperatures
within the xStorage 400. Upon utility return, if the auto-restart functionality is enabled, the unit will begin its
power-up and startup process and then connect to the utility and resume energy service participation. If auto-
restart functionality is not enabled, the unit will require an Eaton service representative to bring the unit back
online. If the unit does automatically restart, it is recommended that an Eaton service representative inspect
the unit to ensure that there is no obvious damaged equipment from the extended blackout.
