Sonix 350-d Technical Manual
6 Unit de-rating
The Sonix 350-d amplifier is designed to be operated
within a temperature-controlled rack environment. If the
ambient operational temperature is likely to exceed the
maximum full load limit, then the speaker load for each
amplifier must be reduced.
Amplifier efficiency reduces as incoming AC voltage
reduces putting more strain on the power supply. To
avoid over-stressing this component and causing either
shutdowns or premature failures the load should be de-
rated.
Eaton also recommend that initial loudspeaker loop
design limits load to approximately 70% maximum
load, after de-rating as needed, to allow for additional
loudspeakers to be added during commissioning.

7 Unit customisation
It is not expected that the Sonix 350-d will require any
customisation.
7.1 70 V Line output
As standard the Sonix 350-d amplifier is designed to
interface to a 100 V line loudspeaker system. If a 70 V
system is required, then this can be accommodated but
exact requirements need to be discussed with you local
Eaton representative.
8 Commissioning/testing
8.1 Before start
Check that:
•
Connection of each cable to and from the system is
correct and the cables are not damaged,
•
DC battery input – if used – has the correct polarity,
•
Unit is correctly earthed,
•
All connections are fully inserted
•
There are no short circuits between negative and
positive conductors.
8.2 Fault finding
This is intended to be a quick reference guild to possible
reasons for the amplifier to be a set state.
•
No indicators
•
Check power input feeds are fully inserted
•
Check power input fuses
•
Thermal fuse may have blown – unit will need
replacing
•
Fuse indicator
•
Red
− External fuse has blown, or not fitted
•
Amp indicator
•
Green + Slow Flashing Red
− Previous amplifier fault, check SAS log for any
details
•
Fast flashing red
− Communications failure
− Check Amp bus connections are properly inserted
− Check that adjacent amplifiers aren’t de-powered
(communications doesn’t pass through a
de-powered amplifier)
