5 Unit operation
Sonix 350-d operates on the Amplifier bus as part of the
Sonix PA/GA system. The Sonix 2Mx central controller
sends data packets and audio to control the amplifiers’
mode and output. The data communication has three
main functions:

Provide the meta-data associated with the provided
audio, for example zoning,
•
To define the current operating mode and be able to
appropriately switch between them,
•
Allow the amplifier to reply to the 2Mx with its
current operational status and any faults.
The two modes of 100V line output operation are:
•
MosFET – in this mode the unit uses a full H-Bridge
to generate, via a line transformer, square-wave alarm
tones; lower fidelity but high power.
•
Linear – In this mode the unit uses 3 linear audio
power amplifiers in parallel, driving the same line
transformer, to generate speech output, attenuated
alarms, sense test and tick-tone; high fidelity, low
power use.
It is possible to limit the 350-d to only work in one
of those modes using configuration. For details on
changing the configuration options please refer to the
SAS Product Manual.
5.1 Front panel unit status indicators
Sonix 350-d unit reports its status via the front panel
LEDs (see Figure 1), which are – except for Power and
hsb (Hot Standby) LEDs – grouped in pairs, and fault
output contacts on the rear (see Figure 2).
LEDs can indicate up to four states:
Green Red Status
On Off Healthy
Off On Fault
On Slow flashing Healthy but with historic (now cleared) fault
Off Fast flashing Connection issues
ote: N Not all states are relevant for each pair of LEDs and some indi-
vidual LEDs may flash for specific functions (see details below).
5.1.1 Power
This is a 48 V dc power indicator:
Green Status
On DC Power present and amplifier is operating
Off DC Power is missing or faulty
5.1.2 Amp
Indicates the status of amplifier:
Green Red Status
On Off Healthy
Off On
Amplifier output fault detected:
•
Failed internal audio test,
•
Failed -5 V rail check.
On Slow flashing Healthy but with historic (now cleared) fault
Off Fast flashing Connection lost – no control data seen
5.1.3 Earth
Indicates earth fault status:
Green Red Status
On Off No earth fault
Off On
Earth fault detected: a speaker loop cable
short to earth
On Slow flashing
Earth fault had been detected but is now
cleared
5.1.4 Line
Indicates the status of field 100 V Line cabling:
Green Red Status
On Off No line faults detected
Off On Failed Sense Test
On Slow flashing
Line fault had been detected but is now
cleared
Off Fast flashing
EOL8 cable issue or HSB Bus cable issue (for
hot standby amps)
5.1.5 Fan
Indicates the status of the fans:
Green Red Status
On Off Fans are running normally
Off On Fan Fault – fans are not running
On Slow flashing
Fan fault had been detected but is now
cleared

Indicates status of amplifier operation:
