End Play Adjustment
CAUTION!!
The mainshaft and countershaft end play is set by a shim pack installed under their
respective rear bearing cups, installed in the transmission rear case.
NOTE:
• Prior to the shim installation, thoroughly clean the parts and remove any signs of sealant left on their
contact faces.
• Rotate the mainshaft several turns clockwise and counterclockwise, to ensure that the mainshaft and
countershaft bearings are properly seated on their cups.
• Install thicker shims at the pack ends.

CAUTION!
Measurement and adjustment of mainshaft and countershaft end-play must be done
WITHOUT the electro-hydraulic control unit installed in the transmission.
1. Place the transmission in the vertical position, with the
rear case facing up.
2. Install the output yoke bolt and washer (or use the
special tool EEA-17406) into the hole at the mainshaft
end and tighten the bolt securely.
3. Install the special tool EEA-17404 to be used as a
support for the dial indicator magnetic base, and secure
it on the transmission using the hole and retaining bolt
of the reverse idle gear shaft.
4. Place the dial indicator magnetic base on the special
tool EEA-17404 used to support it and position the dial
indicator tip on the output yoke bolt (or use the special
tool EEA-17406).
5. With a preload, set the dial indicator needle to zero.
