When performing maintenance on the
humidiﬁ er:

• Always switch the keypad control

mode to Standby.

• Place all power disconnects in OFF

position and lock in OFF position.

• Close the ﬁ eld-installed manual

supply water shut-off valve.

Hot surface and hot water hazard

Do not touch the tank or drain piping
until the unit has had sufﬁ cient time to
cool, or serious injury can occur.

Opening the drain valve when the
tank is hot can discharge water with a
temperature up to 212 °F (100 °C) into
the plumbing system. This can cause
damage to the plumbing system if the
humidiﬁ er is not properly connected
to a water tempering device such
as a DriSteem Drane-kooler

The best way to determine how often your humidiﬁ er needs maintenance is to
remove the tank cover and inspect it for mineral deposits after three months
of duty. Hours of operation and duty cycle will determine your maintenance
schedule, as will water quality.

Water quality

Maintenance requirements vary with water quality, because tap and softened
water carry a variety of minerals and other materials in a mix that varies from
location to location. Very hard (high mineral content) water requires more
frequent cleaning and drain/ﬂ ush cycles than water with low mineral content.

Softened water signiﬁ cantly reduces mineral accumulation inside the humidiﬁ er.

Note: Solids, like silica, are not removed in the softening process.

Skim duration

Skim duration determines the quantity of water skimmed with each ﬁ ll cycle
and is ﬁ eld adjustable using the Vapor-logic keypad/display.

Skimming reduces the need for frequent humidiﬁ er cleaning. Each time the
tank reﬁ lls, it ﬁ lls to a level just above the lip of the skim/overﬂ ow ﬁ tting. A
portion of the ﬁ ll water ﬂ ows out of the skim/overﬂ ow ﬁ tting to the drain, which
ﬂ ushes minerals left by the previous evaporating cycle and skims away surface
residue.

Both humidiﬁ er cleaning and heated water ﬂ owing to the drain are operational
costs. DriSteem recommends that the user observe and adjust the skim duration
to achieve a balance between reducing mineral buildup and conserving
heated water.
