sealing arrangement effectively separates the dirty (inlet) side of the collector
from the clean (outlet) side, as shown in Figure 10. Removal of filter elements is
always carried out from the clean side of the collector.
The DCE 2000 collector is available in a range of sizes (see Table 5), all available
with or without fan and 110 litre dust container or rotary valve hopper. An acoustic
diffuser is fitted as standard. For further details refer to Publication 2325.
A secondary filter can be fitted to DCE 2000 collectors handling hazardous dusts,
enabling filtered air to be recirculated safely back into the working area. It also
acts a fail-safe device should the main filter element become damaged. For
special applications absolute (HEPA) filters are available (details on request).
With certain dusts the filtered air must not be recirculated – if in doubt refer to
Donaldson or the appropriate Health and Safety authorities. Each secondary
filter panel is inserted through the fan section access door and sealed tightly in
position by the locating mechanism. A secondary or absolute filter monitor can
be supplied to measure the pressure drop across the filter elements which will
indicate the filter condition and when maintenance is required.
Equipment is available suitable for use in a potentially explosive atmosphere
(Directive 94/9/EC) satisfying the requirements for group II category 2G or 2D
and 3G or 3D T135°C.
Construction
The unit casing is constructed of mild steel panels which permit operation at
partial vacuums down to
-
500mm water gauge and may be fitted with additional
reinforcement for greater suction values.
The control equipment consists of the air distribution manifold, diaphragm valves,
solenoid valves and controller. These items are mounted immediately below the
clean air chamber and are accessed via a removable panel.
A large hinged inspection door gives access to the clean air chamber for removal
of the jet tubes and filter elements when servicing. For collectors fitted with optional
secondary or absolute filters, a hinged door is provided on the fan section. A
lift-off inspection door is also provided in rotary valve type hoppers.
Fabric filter elements (Figs. 1, 10 and 13)
Each removable filter element is rectangular in shape and comprises a slim wire
mesh frame or ‘insert’ for the filter bag, to which is welded a shaped steel outlet
header with sealing flange. The filter bag itself consist of a rectangular pocket
incorporating a resilient sealing ring at the open end. The bag is pulled over
the wire portion of the insert until the sealing ring meets the sealing flange. The
ring is compressed when the element is clamped into the seal frame, effectively
isolating the dirty side from the clean side of the filter.
There are two sizes of element, designated 1.0 m and 1.5 m according to the
length of filter bag and used as shown in Table 5. The filtering medium is felted
polyester or other fibre suitable for the dust or product being handled.
Antistatic filter elements are available, together with stainless steel and brass
securing bolts and washers, as an option for installations where the dust is
potentially explosive. (See ‘Installation’ section.)
