
Turning the System On
Powering Up
the System
1.
Be sure the AC power cord for each power supply is plugged
in.
2.
Power up any external expansion boxes connected to your
system, for example, expansion boxes that house storage
devices.
3.
Turn on the terminal, as in Figure 1–7

Press the system DC On/Off button to ( | ), as in Figure 1–7

Note
The system cover must be in place and properly secured
before you turn on the system unit. A safety interlock
switch prevents the system from powering up if the cover
is not in place.
Displaying
Power-Up
Information
Power-up information is typically displayed on the system’s
console terminal. The console terminal may be either a graphics
terminal or a serial terminal connected through the COM1
serial port. The setting of the console environment variable
determines where the system will display power-up output. Set
this environment variable according to the console terminal
being used.
Synopsis:
set console output_device
Arguments:
graphics
Displays the power-up output to a graphics
terminal or device connected to the VGA module
at the rear of the system.
serial
Displays the power-up output to a device
connected to the COM1 port at the rear of the
system.
Example:
