ISA Bus Options
ISA Bus Options
The ISA bus (Industry Standard Architecture bus) is an
industry-standard, 16-bit I/O bus. The EISA bus is a superset
of the well-established ISA bus and has been designed to
be backward compatible with 16-bit and 8-bit architectures.
Therefore, ISA modules can be used in the AlphaServer 2000
system, provided the operating system supports the device and
enough system resources are available to configure the device.
Up to seven ISA (or EISA) modules can reside in the EISA bus
portion of the card cage. Figure 3–2 shows the location of ISA
slots on the card cage on the I/O backplane.
To access the card cage, remove the system cover. Refer to
Figure 2–5 and the accompanying text before removing the cover.
Be sure to reattach the four cover screws before attempting to
power up the system again.
Caution
Do not remove the cover when the system is running. If
you do, the system will power down with potential loss of
data.
