7.2
Terminology
Enrolment
The procedure whereby a portable part is registered in the PABX for the first time. When this
is done, the PP and the PABX exchange the following identification codes: IPEI, AC, UAK,
PARK and TPUI.
Cell (radio cell)
A region within which it is possible to establish a two-way wireless connection with one spe-
cific base station. The shape and area of the region is determined by the pattern of the
antenna system used.
Home PST
The home PST (peripheral control module) of a portable part is defined by the RSIa assigned
to it. The home PST administers all portable parts allocated to it in this way, as well as provid-
ing the memory for storing the user-specific data (e.g. volume-setting parameters) of the
respective PPs.
Handover
Generally
Within a given network:
The process by which an active connection (e.g. an on-going
call) to a particular terminal device is handed over from one
physical channel to another.
Internal
Handover within a specific closed wireless telecommunications
network. This may be either an inter-cell handover or an intra-
cell handover.
Inter-cell (one cell to another) Handover from one radio cell (i.e. base station) to another.
Intra-cell (within a cell)
Handover within one and the same cell.
Seamless
A successful internal handover which is carried out without the
(without interruption)
user noticing it (i.e. without disturbing his connection).
International
portable equipment
identity (IPEI)
The IPEI is 13-digit identification number, unique in the whole world ("globally unique"), which
is recorded in a non-volatile read-only memory (ROM) in the portable part. The IPEI is GAP-
compatible. This number is checked by the PABX upon enrolling the portable part, so that it
must be registered in the system's memory before the portable part is enrolled. The SPC com-
fort user interface is used to enter the IPEIs when programming the system for use with porta-
ble parts.
