Removing an SSD device from the caching pool
About this task
This procedure describes how to remove an SSD device that is being used to provide
caching. You may want to do this in order to use the SSD for storage, instead of for
caching. If you want to completely remove the SSD from the system, follow the
instructions in "Using the Hardware view to remove and replace a device".
The caching mode can be Read Flash Cache, DAS Cache, or CacheCade. In this
procedure, where the instructions apply equally to all forms of caching, we will use the
phrase <Caching_Method>, that should be replaced with either “Read Flash Cache”,
“DAS Cade”, or “CacheCade”, corresponding to your system configuration.
Procedure
1. Perform one of the following:
a. For DAS Cache or CacheCade, from the Backend > Storage view, right-
click the Storage Pool of which the disk is a member, and choose Set
<Caching_Method> Caching Policy.
It is easiest to do this by sorting the SDSs by Storage Policy.
b. For Read Flash Cache, from the Backend > Acceleration view, right-click
the Protection Domain of which the disk is a member, and choose Set Read
Flash Cache Policy.
2. Perform one of the following:.
a. For DAS Cache and CacheCade, in the Set <Caching_Method> Caching
Policy window, select Don’t use <Caching_Method>, and click OK. When
the status shows
Does not use cache
, click Close.
b. For Read Flash Cache, in the Set Read Flash Cache Policy window, clear
the Enable Read Flash Cache checkbox, and click OK.
3. From the Hardware view, right-click the disk and choose Remove Acceleration
Drive.
If the device is an acceleration device (not DAS Cache), the SDS Acceleration
Configuration window appears. You can use the window to make changes to
the allocation of acceleration features, before proceeding to remove the device.
Close this window when you are done.
The Remove Device window appears.
4. In the Remove Device window, click OK.
5. In some cases, a rebuild/rebalance begins.
Use the Dashboard view to determine when that is complete.
6. Clear disk errors.
7. To add the SSD to a Storage Pool, refer to "Adding devices". .
