Transmitter/Disarming problems
Transmitter design
The S4 series transmitter is state of the art when it comes to design and reliability. It is fully approved to
FCC and DTI standards and is waterproof. It also does not contain switches as buttons as these are known
to collapse with age. Instead they use ‘conductive rubber’ as contacts for increased reliability.
Radio interference problems
Virtually all alarm systems use radio signals to arm and disarm. The output and frequency of these signals
are very tightly controlled by the varying homologation bodies in each country but the accepted norm for
most countries is 433 mHZ.
As a result this frequency has become very oversubscribed with many devices adopting this frequency also
(sometimes with outputs far higher than the law allows).
Very rarely a customer may find themselves in an area swamped with this frequency and find it difficult to
disarm their alarm (please note this applies to all manufacturers). In such case moving the machine a little
way from the cause of the signal normally allows the system to be disarmed. Alternatively they can disarm
the system with their PIN (assuming they have previously entered one).
Voltage based issues
These are not really a problem, but occur due to the current saving, sleep mode features of the S4 series.
As the machine’s battery voltage reduces the alarm sequentially shuts down parts of the system, including
the receiver board used to pick up the remote control signal.
The LED indicates the level of voltage and hence the operating features available. Full details of what is
excluded at different voltages are on Page 31 of the dealer manual. The table below shows the Voltage,

As the sleep modes are controlled purely by voltage the use of a float charger such as the Datatool battery
conditioner (Pt. No. 02012011) will stop the alarm entering the sleep modes. If the alarm has entered sleep
mode charging the battery will raise the voltage and the alarm will return through the various stages of sleep
mode to normal operation.
The above two issues are not warranty problems.
Lost/Stolen transmitters
Lost or stolen transmitters can only be removed by a Datatool dealer only via the engineer software switch

Please note: Each time the alarm is disarmed the LED on the machine flashes the number of times
equivalent to the number of transmitters CURRENTLY coded into it. By this you will always know if you
have all remote controls in your possession. If you find there are extra remotes coded in it is advisable to
delete them to maintain the security of the machine.
