5.1.1 - Requirements for correct ventilation
The technical room MUST be provided with an air vent of the
correct size. To ensure appropriate ventilation for combustion,
in line with the requirements of national and local regulations in
force, pay attention to the following:
A single direct opening to the outside is required for combustion;
this must have a minimum area of 3000 cm
2
or 5000 cm
2
if the
appliance is fuelled by LPG. This opening must be positioned
at least 30 cm from the ceiling if it is fuelled by METHANE gas
(see fig. 5-2) or at floor level if it is fuelled by LPG (see fig. 5-3).
The openings must communicate directly with the outside. The
requirements described above refer to a single appliance; rooms
in which there are several appliances require an increase in
free area to provide adequate ventilation for combustion in all
the appliances.
WARNING! There must never be negative
pressure in the heating unit. For this reason you must
take into account the presence of any outlet fans, ceiling
fans, dryers, compressors, air heating units, etc. that
might take air away from the appliance.
WARNING! Extractors or similar devices for the
removal of air from the heating unit might reduce the
ventilation required for combustion and/or cause low
pressure in the ventilation system. Escapes of exhaust
gases from the ventilation system in an occupied
habitable room can cause a very dangerous situation
which must be corrected immediately.
5.1.2 - Preventing contamination of
combustion air
Do not locate extractor and/or exhaust gases outlet terminals
in rooms where the combustion air may be contaminated.
WARNING! Contaminated fuel air can damage
the appliance.
Make sure that the fuel air does not contain any of the following
contaminating agents:
- Permanent wave solutions;
- Chlorinated waxes/detergents;
- Chlorine-based chemical products for swimming pools;
- Calcium chloride used for defrosting;
- Sodium chloride used to soften the water;
- Leaks of refrigerant;
- Varnish or paint removal solutions;
- Hydrochloric acid/muriatic acid;
- Cements and adhesives;
- Anti-static softeners used in tumble dryers;
- Chlorine-type bleaches, detergents and cleaning solvents
found in utility rooms for domestic use;
- Adhesives used to glue construction products and other
similar products;
