1. General information
This document is intended for the installer and the end user. It must
therefore be handed over to the end user or to the person in charge of
managing the system after the system has been installed and started.
The combined thermal accumulators ECO COMBI 1, 2, 3 and ECO-COM
-
BI 2 DOMUS produced by the manufacturer, are designed to be used in
those heating system with simultaneous production of heating and do
-
mestic hot water, with one or more heat sources typically working on
discontinuous mode. In fact, thanks to their ability to store heat they are
used in heating systems operating on solid fuel boilers, heat pumps and
solar thermal systems.
The thermal accumulators ECO COMBI always consist of a main cham
-
ber used for inertial storage housing an exchanger consisting of a stain
-
less steel Aisi 316L (1.4404) corrugated spiral pipe, having the function
to prepare and deliver domestic hot water. Version 2 is also provided
with one helical coil exchanger and version 3 features two, allowing the
use of the energy produced by a solar thermal system and in general to
separate more energy sources hydraulically.
The main cylinder of the Combi connected to a traditional solid fuel boiler,
guarantees the following advantages:
• Allows the generator to operate smoothly, without interruptions due
to insufficient demand for energy from the heating system: in these
conditions, rather than stopping the combustion or overheating the
rooms, the generator can be operated continuously storing energy in
storage unit. This energy will become available later when the pro
-
gressive exhaustion of the fuel will reduce the power supplied by
the boiler. The operation without any interruptions reduces smoke
emissions and the fouling of the chimney, it protects the boiler from
harmful formation of condensed tar, and increases the overall perfor
-
mance of the system.
• It is a “thermal flywheel” for the heating system and greatly increases
operator comfort, making it very similar to that of automatic gas/diesel
systems. In fact, the energy contained in the form of hot water is au
-
tomatically transferred to the heating system when it is needed. This
ensures even a few hours of heating when the boiler is off, for example
in the early hours of the morning.
Therefore, Eco Combi thermal accumulator main cylinder is designed to
contain only primary water (so-called “technical water”) of closed-circuit
heating systems.
The particular shape of the internal stainless steel exchanger, meant for
the production of domestic hot water, avoids all the problems associated
with the accumulation of domestic hot water (deposits, stagnation, for
-
mation of bacterial colonies, etc.) and ensures optimal performance in
terms of heat exchange. In fact, being the internal exchanger made of
one piece corrugated pipe, for every domestic hot water outlet there will
be a fresh sanitary water inlet, with obvious benefits from the hygienic
point of view.
Any use of the product other than the one stated in this document re
-
lieves the manufacturer of any liability and will void any warranty.
If the accumulator is connected to a biomass generator (wood, chip or
pellet boiler), it is advisable to install on the return pipe to the generator
a suitable device keeping return temperature at a constant level; such
device must consist of a mixing valve (either motorised or automatic) to
prevent the back flow inside boiler of water at too a low temperature and
thus ensuring considerable advantages (increase of generator lifetime)
thanks to the elimination of thermal shocks and the reduction of corrosion
risks due to condensate development).
2. Category identification
(Directive 2014/68/EU)
According to Directive 2014/68/EU the thermal accumulator object of this
document are under the provisions stated in Article 4.3 of the Directive
itself. Therefore they do not require EC marking. However, the manufac
-
turer guarantees, as established by the Directive, a sound engineering
practice (assured by the Quality System ISO 9001) which ensures safe
operation and identification of the manufacturer.
3. Installation and Maintenance
Warnings
The manufacturer's liability is limited to the supply of the equipment. Your
system must be professionally made - in compliance with the prevailing
instructions and professional regulations - by qualified staff, acting on
behalf of companies taking the full responsibility of the whole system.
The manufacturer cannot be held responsible for modifications made to
the product without previous authorization and for the use of non-original
spare parts.
Do not touch product hot parts, such as water inlet and outlet pipes. Con
-
tact with such surfaces may lead to serious burns.
The handling of equipment whose weight exceeds 30 kg requires the use
of suitable means of lifting and carrying. To this end, the containers must
be handled only when empty. The pallet that eventually comes with the
device should be removed before installation. If the insulation comes not
mounted, please note that it must be mounted on the equipment before
connecting the pipes.
Thermal accumulators must always be installed so that they are shel
-
tered from atmospheric conditions, on an adequate and solid base,
verifying, before making the connections, that there is enough space
for the extraction of the devices directly connected to it and for the
usual maintenance operations. Under no circumstances tank must be
"hanged" to pipes.
Always provide adequate expansion systems both for thermal accumu
-
lator (calculated taking into account also the volume of the heating sys
-
tem) and for the cylinder containing domestic hot water. Always comply
with rules and laws in force at the installation site, considering also the
type and power of the connected generator/s. On the domestic hot water
circuit, even when laws and local rules and regulations state that the ex
-
pansion system can only consist of appropriately sized safety valves, it is
recommended to install an expansion tank, closed non-toxic membrane
type, to avoid continuous opening of the safety valve and to absorb water
hammers on the domestic hot water side.
Where required, the connection of domestic cold water inlet to the do
-
mestic water supply must be made by a group of hydraulic safety con
-
forming with EN 1487:2002, including at least one shut-off valve, a check
valve, a check valve control device, a safety valve, one hydraulic load
breaking device and all the other accessories necessary for safe opera
-
tion of the boilers themselves.
