12. Fine Tuning of the Model Helicopter
If the nod or roll trim must be adjusted a lot for the helicopter to hover stably and calibration of the control sticks (see
following chapter) does not lead to the desired success, you can mechanically adjust the swash plate linkage. For
this, it is sensible to remove the canopy.
Generally observe that the helicopter always flies in the direction into which the swash plate is tipped or tilted. If the
helicopter tries to fly to the left, the linkage must be adjusted until the swash plate is tipped farther to the right. If the
helicopter tries to fly forward, the linkage must be adjusted until the swash plate is tipped farther to the rear.
Lift the canopy (1) off of the support bolts (2) on the left and the
right and pull the canopy off forwards.
If the swash plate is slightly askew so that the helicopter keeps
flying into a specific direction, disconnect the ball sockets (3)
of the linkage rods (4) from the swash plate arms (5) and twist
them to set the required rod length.
The ball sockets are bet disconnected with a small flat-head
screwdriver that can be used to gently lever the socket from
the balls.
For attachment, use flat tweezers or thin long-nosed pliers.
Work with the required care to avoid damage to the swash plate
or breaking off parts of it.
Attention!
Always disconnect the flight battery from the model
before carrying out any maintenance or adjustment
works at the mechanics.
Set the linkage rods so that the model helicopter hovers stably
without any large adjustments of the nod and roll trim out of the
centre position being required.
