4.
On SW1, move switch 1 to the ON position.
IMPORTANT:
Switch 1 has a default setting of OFF. When the switch is OFF, your
workstation is password-protected. To reenable password protection, you MUST return the
switch to its
default
position later in this procedure.
5.
Replace the I/O bracket assembly. Reconnect the power cord to the grounded AC outlet
and to the power connector on the rear of the workstation.
IMPORTANT:
You
must
replace the I/O bracket assembly before you restart your
workstation. If the bracket is not properly seated, the workstation will not start.
6.
Restart the workstation to erase your password from system memory.
NOTE
: Clearing the Setup Password will also clear the Power-on Password. Be sure to
reestablish your Power-on Password after clearing the Setup Password.
7.
Turn off the workstation once more. Disconnect the power cord from the grounded AC
outlet and from the power connector on the rear of the workstation.
8.
Remove the I/O bracket assembly to access SW1.
9.
On SW1, return switch 1 to its original default (OFF) position.
10.
Reassemble the workstation.
11.
Establish a new Setup Password, if desired.
Power-on Password
The Power-on Password prevents unauthorized use of the workstation. When the power is turned
on or when the workstation is restarted, the Power-on Password must be entered. If this security
feature is enabled, a key icon (
) appears on the screen when the workstation is powered on
or restarted.
NOTE
: The Power-on Password may only be established (for the first time) using the Computer
Setup utility. Once established, the Setup utility cannot be used to change or delete the Power-on
Password. To change or delete the Power-on Password, see “Changing a Power-on Passsword”
or “Deleting a Power-on Password” in this chapter.
Enabling a Power-on Password
To establish a Power-on Password:
1.
Turn on the workstation.
2.
When you see the words “F10=Setup” in the bottom-right corner of the screen, press
F10.
NOTE
: You have approximately two seconds to press
F10
. If you do not press
F10
during this
time, you must restart the workstation to access the utility.
3.
Select the desired language when prompted. Then press Enter to bypass the welcome
screens and display the Compaq Utilities menu.
