The lower line of the display is the Bootloader version number and is not to be confused
with the actual firmware version number that can be loaded onto the control board to run
the machine.

All firmware must be stored in “.\COFFETEK\ZMCU\FIRMWARE” on the USB flash drive.

On an operational machine any USB activity which saves data to the flash drive will create
this directory automatically. It is recommended to keep this directory small to avoid
erroneous firmware being loaded onto the ZMCU.

The machine will then search for attached USB devices. If a device is not found the display
will show,

PLEASE INSERT
USB DEVICE

If a USB flash drive is attached the screen will briefly say

DEVICE PRESENT

The bootloader will then scan the USB flash drive to see if any firmware updates are
available in the “.\COFFETEK\ZMCU\FIRMWARE” directory. If this directory is not available
the display will say

NO FIRMWARE
DIRECTORY FOUND!

If the directory exists but there are no valid files to upload the display will show,

NO FIRMWARE
FILES FOUND!

If a USB flash drive is inserted that does contain valid files the display will change to,

SELECT FILE
NG648_GB.000

57.

The lower line displays the software version of the file that is about to be uploaded.

NOTE: It is imperative that the correct version of software for the machine is selected
otherwise correct machine operation cannot be assured.

Pressing the



(UP) or



(DOWN) key will select any alternative software versions that are

also available. Once you have the necessary software version selected press ENTER to
confirm you wish to upload or press ESCAPE to cancel.

58.

There are three stages which occur when ENTER is pressed. The first is verification that
the file has valid contents. If it doesn’t have valid contents the operation is aborted but if it
does then the memory storing the old software is erased. Finally the board is programmed
with the new software. Once completed successfully the display will show,

FIRMWARE UPDATED
REMOVE ENG’ LINK

59.

IF ESCAPE is pressed or there is a problem with the programming the display will show,

REMOVE ENG’ LINK

60.

Once the Engineer’s link is removed there will be three short beeps before the machine
then restarts with the newly programmed software.
