Chapter 10:Telnet Commands
The Telnet commands allow you to communicate with a remote computer that is using the
Telnet protocol.
You can run
telnet
without parameters in order to enter the telnet context, indicated by the
Telnet prompt (
telnet>
). From the Telnet prompt, use the following commands to manage a
computer running Telnet Client.
ENABLING THE TELNET API
To enable the Telnet API:
1. Click Settings>Advanced>Security.
2. Check that the Telnet Interface is Enabled, and create a Telnet Interface Password
STARTING AN API SESSION USING AN RS-232 INTERFACE
The COLLABORATE® Live can run API sessions from the RS-232 interface
– COM 1 or 2
Enable telnet interface in the
Advanced>Security
settings.
In the
Advanced>Serial Port
settings, change the Com port mode to Serial control.
Power off the computer or control system and the COLLABORATE® Live system.
Use an RS-232 cable to connect the computer or control system RS-232 port to the
correct COM port on the COLLABORATE® Live system.
Power on the computer and the COLLABORATE® Live system.
From the computer or control system, start a serial session using HyperTerminal or
another appropriate utility.
Set up the serial session as follows:
a. Connection name:
b. Protocol: Serial
c. Port: The COM Port number on your PC (Check under Device Manager)
d. Baud Rate: 9600
e. Data Bits: 8
f. Parity: None
g. Stop bits: 1
USING THE API WITH A LAN CONNECTION
If you have a computer connected to the LAN, you can send API commands to the
COLLABORATE® Live system through Telnet port 23.
1. On the computer, open a command line interface.
2. Start a Telnet session using the COLLABORATE system IP address.
Note:
You cannot use Telnet to access the system if the Telnet Interface is disabled in the
Advanced>Security menu
