CHECKING AND SETTING THE VALVE TIMING

Check ing the setting (continued)

Remove: 
- the accessories drive belt.
- the accessories drive pulley.
- the lower timing cover

IMPERATIVE : The magnetic track should show no signs of damage
and should not be approached by any other source of magnetism.

Reposition the screw

Remove tool

.

Rotate the engine by means of the crankshaft pinion screw 

(2)

(clockwise), to bring it to the pegging position.
Position the tool

[4]

.

Peg the crankshaft pinion

, using tool

.

Peg the high pressure pump pinion, using tool 

[5]

.

NOTE:

Index

of the roller tensioner must be centred within the

area

Check the correct positioning of index

Remove tools

Rotate the engine ten times.
Fit the tools

and

If pegging is not possible, carry out the operation to remove/refit the
timing belt. (See corresponding operation).
