You can configure either terminal (internal) loopback or facility (line) loopback.

Configures internal loopback.

Configures line loopback.

RP/0/RP0/CPU0:ios(config-eth-ctrlr)#

You can verify the internal or line loopback configuration using the following show commands.
a)
show controllers controllertype R/S/I/P
Displays status and configuration information about the controller.
In the maintenance mode, all alarms are suppressed and the
show alarms
command will not show the
alarms details. Use the
show controllers controllertype R/S/I/P
to view the client and trunk alarms.
