78 Chapter 3 Repairs

1. Remove the Alveograph's casing (see op. A1-1) .
2. Unscrew and remove the upper plate assembly from the Alve-
ograph
(see op. A2-1) .
3. Unscrew the four screws on the crown.
4. Remove the upper part of the plate (A).
Note: At this stage, we recommend removing the RLP pressure
board and its support (see op. A1-2) .
5. Gently take out the lower plate to gain access to the pneumatic
couplings.
6. Disconnect the pneumatic couplings, noting their position (B).
7. Remove the piston from the Alveo unit.
8. Unscrew the core of the electromagnet from the piston (C)
using a 17 mm open-ended spanner and remove the cup.
Before replacing the piston, check the 63 mm dimension (D);
this is essential for proper positioning of the piston. Leaks
occur if the piston is not in place.
After replacing the lower plate, check that the piston is working
properly without any “hard spots”. Otherwise, you need to readjust
the electromagnet
(see op. A10-2) .
