3-5. Firebox Door Seal and Bushings
Make sure the firebox door is properly latched and check the condition of
the firebox door seal. If it is not sealing properly (indicated by a uniform
indentation), replace the seal.
3-6. Chimney
Remove the chimney inspection cover. Inspect the chimney outlet and chimney
for excessive creosote, ash or deposits and clean as necessary.
NOTE: The chimney inspection cover must fit tightly. Check and clean if necessary the
groove for the cover to prevent air from leaking out. Leaking air caused by an improperly
fitting cover can cause corrosion.

3-7. Heat Exchangers
NOTE: Clean the heat exchangers weekly until the interval for your application can be
determined. Frequency will vary depending on a number of factors including heat load
requirements, type of wood used and the moisture content of the wood.
NOTE: The best time to clean the heat exchangers is prior to loading with wood when all
that remains in the firebox is a glowing coal bed.
1. Press the Power button on the FireStar controller to turn it off.
CAUTION
Be sure to turn off the FireStar controller before doing this procedure.
2. Remove the chimney inspection cover.
3. Insert the tapered small end of the cleaning rod into the opening of the
integrated cleaning system bracket; then cycle the integrated cleaning
system back and forth several times to dislodge ash from the heat
exchangers. Ash and any deposits will fall into the Reaction Chamber.
