Faxes sent from this machine are spotted or dirty.
Cause 1
Is your fax machine working properly?
Remedy
Check the machine by making a copy. (For more information, see Chapter 1,
“Basic Copying Features,” in the
Copying Guide
.)
If the copy is clear, the problem may be in the receiving fax machine. If the copy
is spotted or dirty, clean the platen glass, the feeder scan area, and the read
area of the platen glass. (See Chapter 7, “Routine Maintenance,” in the
Reference Guide
.)
Cause 2
Is the original placed correctly?
Remedy
Remove the original, align the edges if necessary, and place it on the platen
glass or into the feeder correctly. (See “Placing Originals,” on p. 1-34.)
The documents you send are streaked with lines when they print on the recipient’s fax
machine.
Cause
Is your machine’s feeder scan area or platen glass clean?
Remedy
Copy a document on your machine and see if the document is streaked or dirty.
If the copy is streaked, clean the feeder scan area or platen glass.
The documents you send are printed at a reduced size on the recipient’s fax machine.
Cause 1
Are the slide guides adjusted for the size of the document you are faxing?
Remedy
Adjust the guides to the size of the document you are faxing and try sending
again.
Cause 2
Is the recipient’s paper smaller than the size of the document you sent?
Remedy
If the recipient is using smaller paper, your machine automatically reduces the
size of the document in accordance with the size of recipient’s paper.
