Configuring Async Ports
The integral Async PAD function in the Netlink FRX4000, FRX6000, and Frame
Relay Module allow asynchronous devices to connect to a frame relay or X.25
network.
To run a port as an integral async PAD in an FRX or FRM, you must first configure
the following in the database:

Node parameters. See Chapter 3. This is general configuration that must be done
no matter which protocols will be run in the node.
●
Async PAD Profiles (described later in this chapter), which define the operation
of the attached devices.Login parameters (described later in this chapter), which
define passwords to be used when logging into the FRX/FRM.
●
Line Processor(s) that will contain the interface(s) to the user device(s), network
and/or frame relay PVC, plus Line Interface Card(s) supporting the ports that
will be the interfaces. See Chapter 4.
●
Protocols: Async, plus frame relay or X.25. See Chapter 4.
●
Async, plus frame relay or X.25 port(s) that will connect to the user device(s)
and network. See Chapter 6 (frame relay) or Chapter 7 (X.25), and the
remainder of this chapter.
●
SVC Subscriber ID(s), which identifiy user devices to each other and the FRX/
FRM.
●
PVC connections (described later in this chapter), which create "permanent"
connections between two ports in the node. A PVC can be created between two
async ports or between an async port and an X.25 port.
●
Abbreviated address(es), if desired. This feature (described later in this chapter)
allows short "nicknames" to be assigned to subscriber addresses, to ease entry
of addresses.
