Use the standard EN ISO 13849-1 to determine the Performance
Level (PL)

Note that mechanical failure of the switching device can
cause the loss of the safety function.

Impede welding of the contacts of the connected contac‐
tors or safety relays by protecting them against overcur‐
rent and overvoltage.

Ensure that the external wiring is regularly checked by the
machine control upon machine startup. This check has to
detect the loss of the safety function.

Ensure that the module is switched off safely with respect
to the application if an error occurs or that a warning is
generated (optically and/or acoustically).

Note that all undetected errors can cause the loss of the
safety function. Take measures allowing the exclusion of
these errors (e.g. protected wiring of cables or double in‐
sulation). Observe the notes in the following tables.

If the test pulses are switched off, check the switch-off ca‐
pability of the actuators regularly.
