3.5.2
Connect the heater electrical supply
1.
Refer to Figure 13. Remove the cover from the terminal-box,.
2.
Pass the electrical supply cable through the cable-gland (4) on the terminal-box.
3.
Connect the live and neutral conductors in the cable to the two heater connection terminals (2, 3).
4.
Securely connect the earth (ground) conductor in the cable to the earth (ground) connection (5)
in the terminal-box.
5.
If necessary, use the spare terminal (1) for any thermal snap-switch connections.
6.
On water-cooled pumps, connect a suitable earth (ground) conductor between the earth (ground)
connection (5) and the cooling-fail thermal snap-switch mounting plate (see Figures 1 to 4).
7.
On air-cooled EO2K pumps, connect a suitable earth (ground) conductor between the earth
(ground) connection (5) and the earth (ground) stud on the cooling-fan cowling (Figure 2, item 5).
8.
Tighten the cable-gland (4) to secure the electrical supply cable.
9.
Refit the cover to the terminal-box.
3.5.3
Connect the fan electrical supply (EO2K air-cooled pump only)
Refer to Figure 2. Connect the two wires in the fan electrical cable (4) to your electrical supply so that:
•
The fan starts when the backing pump is switched on.
•
The fan remains on after the pump heater electrical supply has been switched off. (This will help to
rapidly cool the pump, and prevent excessive back-streaming of pump fluid if the pump inlet
isolation valve is left open.)
3.6
Fit optional thermal snap-switches
If you have ordered any thermal snap-switch accessories, fit them now:
•
On all applications, we recommend that you fit a cooling-fail thermal snap-switch to the mounting
plate on the cooling-coil of water-cooled EO pumps. If you do not, and the cooling-water supply
fails, pump fluid may enter your backing pump and/or your vacuum system.
•
You
must
fit a cooling-fail thermal snap-switch if you will use PPE fluids in the EO pump: see the
Warning above.
•
If required, fit a pump-ready thermal snap-switch to the end of the ejector stage housing on the EO
pump.
Connect the thermal snap-switches as described in the instructions supplied with the snap-switch
accessories.
WARNING
If you use polyphenyl ether (PPE) fluids in the EO pump, you must fit a cooling-fail thermal
snap-switch and interlock it with the pump electrical supply. If you do not, the pump fluid
could reach its thermal breakdown temperature if the cooling-water supply fails. The
thermal breakdown products of PPE fluids are dangerous.
WARNING
If you do not fit a cooling-fail thermal snap-switch, the pump will not comply with the
requirements of EN61010.
