11.3 Auxiliary Attached ASCII Printers

Some terminals and PCs are equipped with an auxiliary port (serial or parallel) to which you may attach
an ASCII printer. The LinkUp 5294 supports this application through a special Auxiliary Printer facility.
This facility enables your terminal or PC and its attached auxiliary printer to share a single port on the
LinkUp 5294 and still be separately addressed by the System/3X host. This is accomplished by
interleaving the data between both devices, with the terminal or PC having priority over the printer.

As far as the LinkUp 5294 or the System/3X host is concerned, an auxiliary printer is no different from a
printer which is actually directly connected. With the help of the LinkUp 5294, the auxiliary printer can
also emulate one of the IBM 52xx Printers as either a System or Local Copy printer.
