CONNECTING THE HANDPIECE TO THE FIBER CABLE
This procedure applies to the Gold and Turbo Handpieces. The Gold Handpiece is designed
to operate with the Waterlase all-tissue laser system and uses Quartz (single-use) and
Sapphire (reusable) Tips. It is used in all soft-tissue procedures and most hard-tissue procedures
that do not require bulk removal of tissue. Turbo Tips are required for bulk removal of hard-tissue.
Overall, the design of the Turbo Handpiece is identical to that of the Gold Handpiece, but with a larger
tip opening sized to accommodate Turbo Tips. These tips are made from optical grade sapphire material
polished to precise specifications.
1. Remove the Handpiece from the Handpiece box.
2. Remove the rear plug from the Handpiece by pulling; place the plug in the Handpiece box to store.
3. Remove the protective cover from the shaft of the Fiber Cable by pulling; place it in the Handpiece
box to store.
4. Check the Fiber Cable shaft for any moisture and wipe off any that is found with a dry tissue.
5. Carefully insert the Fiber Cable shaft into the Handpiece until it “clicks” (Fig 7.23, 7.24, 7.25).
CAUTION: Check the output end of the Fiber Cable shaft for
any contamination or damage (see Section 11, Maintenance
and Troubleshooting). DO NOT touch the output end to prevent
contamination and/or potential further damage. If touched, clean
with a dry tissue.
NOTE:
Connecting and disconnecting the Handpiece and removal
of the protective cover should be done carefully, without applying
excessive force.
WARNING: To prevent the internal Fiber Cable from breaking, do
not bend the flexible part of the Fiber Cable shaft.
