9-7 Accessing and Repairing the Cross Feed Assembly

To access and repair the Cross Feed Assembly (Figure 9-7), do the following:
1.
Turn off Clinitek Atlas and Rack Sample Handler Units. Remove handler from Atlas (4 allen screws) and
set it on a flat, stable bench.
2.
Remove covers (see paragraph 9-3 and Figures 9-1 and 9-2). Remove the Program Card that plugs into
the CPU PC Board (see item 6 on page 10.24 to locate card) and set it aside.
3.
Stand up the Rack Sample Handler on its rear frame; use care not to drop handler while it is standing
on its rear frame!
4.
Remove the four M3 x 6 (M2 x 6 on early units) metric allen screws (item 2 on page 10.42) that hold the
Waste Receiver (item 1, page 6.42) in place. Remove the metal tray Waste Receiver. Access to Cross
Feed Assembly can then be made.
5.
To change the belt and work further on the Cross Feed Assembly, return the instrument to its feet and
remove the Rear Cross Frame 19 (see item 3 on page 10.34) by removing two M3 x 6 (M2 x 6 in early
units) metric allen screws in the Cross Guide (see items 1 and 4 on page 10.38). One of the two screws
is near sensor PH2, the other screw is next to the right side (facing front of unit) white teflon lever used to
outfeed racks. Then
loosen the two screws on the Cross Guide next to sensors ORG2 and PH7. This will
make it easier to remove the Rear Cross Frame 19.

Next remove a third top M3 (or M2) x 6 metric screw directly behind sensor ORG2 in the Transfer Plate.
Once all three top screws are out and two more loosened, carefully turn the Rack Sample Handler upside
down to access the bottom parts.
7.
Remove the M4 (or M3) x 35 metric allen cap screw (see item 6 on page 10.34) and the M4 (or M3) x 20
metric allen cap screw (see item 33 on page 10.34) holding the Rear Cross Frame 19 to the instrument.
Once these two screws are out, carefully tug the Rear Cross Frame 19 out of the unit. Once it is
removed, the belt and other parts may be worked on or removed.
8.
To replace the Timing Belt (item 16, Figure 9-7), mark a line across the Tensioner (item 21) and Cross
Frame 18 (item 10) to identify the proper belt tensioning. Then loosen the M4 x 10 metric allen cap screw
(item 17) to loosen and remove the belt. Turn the pulleys to

ork?the belt on and off the unit.
9.
With belt re-attached, line up the mark across the Tensioner and Cross Frame 18 and tighten the screw.
Check belt tension with a
150 gram (5 ounce) weight , which should press down on the belt 5mm (3/16
inch) if properly installed. The Cross Frame 19 brown plastic Cross Rail (item 39, page 10.28) will
interfere with the 150 gram weight and needs to be removed to do this measurement. Re-assemble unit
and attach covers. Run the With Tube Run in Service Test Mode (see page 7.4) for at least 30 minutes to
verify unit is working properly.
